About Rodrigo (Troito) Troitiño

Rodrigo (Troito) Troitiño is an art director & designer, as well a diverse visual artist + photographer. — Thanks to the artistic+designer mix, since early 90’s Troito has been developing a broad style using a variety of techniques. Acrylics over canvas, sculpture made out of Play-Doh, hatching, stencils + acrylics over wasted wood such as pallets or wine boxes, and also, recently more often, photography.

On the conceptualization side, few constants: Movement, Happiness, Contemplation and Light.

“My artworks are like windows to new horizons and perspectives — often leading to happiness, sometimes to contemplation.”

Troito's most relevant art project is, The Unknowns' Good Feelings, (2014—2016), a ‘one-to-one’ art experience. In this project Troitiño talked with people previously unknown to him about “what is happiness” for 20 minutes while drawing, inspired by their conversation, in this way creating a portrait of good feelings from that particular person’s (unknown’s) point of view. This project had editions in Barcelona, Brazil, Moscow, Finland, London and also through the Camino de Santiago in Spain. — Check the full project here.

Troitiño, brazilian-born, grew up in front of computer screens and all the fresh launchings of the pop-culture going on in the 80’s. By the 90’s, Troito decided to work for his father in a software development company where at the age of 14 he started to design different elements for software interfaces and websites, as well as logotypes. Meanwhile, when 17 in high-school, he was discovering Oil Pastels and exploring forms and colours. Here are a couple of his first reproductions and one of his own creations made back in the late 90’s, Blue Girl, winner of the Best of Show 1999 – Adams County District – Denver, Colorado, US.

Netherlands — based in Amsterdam since early 2018 — Rodrigo creates and produces an independent magazine, a booklet with photos that people can cut out and have it as print cards. This first edition featured, on 12 pages, a selection of Troito’s street photography shots made in the Netherlands during 2018. Some of the pictures are followed by poems — Ben Blench, Raphael Gancz and Vanessa Inggs collaborated on this first issue as writers. This is a nonprofit initiative, the copies of the magazine were distributed to friends, other people Troito met around Amsterdam, and he also left samples in his favorites cafés and by magazine shops. — Troi.to - issue 0001, had 300 units printed and stamp-numbered.

Acrylics vs. Photography — As Rodrigo keeps developing his art along the broad path of possibilities, his work in photopraphy also keeps developing. The picture in the ‘Hope for Happiness’ collection (front page of troi.to website) were captured by Troito during 2017—2018 when he also created the following acrylic over paper black and white pieces.

These recent pieces are the result of Troito’s need for seeking for more spontaneous ways of making art. Using brushes he ends ups in a way ‘merging’ photography and paintings, from which new imaginative worlds emerge. Whether with camera on hands or on paper, the results are landscapes, trees, animals and portraits with a lyrical atmosphere. They are sometimes imaginative or abstract, although often inspired by the artist’s daily experiences and environments. — You can see bellow some samples of Troito’s 2018 acrylics over paper.

Currently based in Amsterdam, Troito is open for collaborative projects with other artists, creative agencies, galleries, etc. Please get in touch in case you have any question. — troitino@gmail.com
